Classroom Community

  • The classrooms should be a positive, enriching, and supportive space for our students so that they are able to feel safe, a sense of belonging, and are able to flourish to their full potential.

Process Oriented Learning

  • Learning is a process and it looks different for all students.The value of overall student growth is greater than their final product.

"WE" Rather Than "I/You"

  • Teachers and students work together as a team. Collaborating with students and other staff provides a supportive model for students to see on a day to day basis. Collaboration fosters respect in the classroom.

Adaptability/Flexibility

  • Flexibility creates opportunities for learning moments. Whether it be adapting to current world events such as a pandemic, different sociocultural communities, learning practices, etc. Being flexible and adaptable supports student growth and learning processes to best suit their needs.

Creating Connections

  • Creating meaningful connections is the foundation of my teaching philosophy.  Educators are part of the people business and creating connections with those around us is something we should prioritize. My hope is to create connections through music within the classroom, school, and community.

Assessment

  • Assessment should support student growth. I believe in a constructivist approach, utilizing assessment for, as, and of learning in different ways to best suit the progress of my students. Being flexible in terms of assessment methods provides students with many opportunities to demonstrate their learning and understanding, and to also provide them with the opportunity to gain awareness on what areas can be improved.

Lifelong Learning

  • My ultimate goal as an educator is to provide opportunities for my students to experience meaningful moments that lead to their desire to be lifelong learners. I hope to spark their passions, and I hope to let them go with skills that will help them live their lives to their fullest potential.
